KIDDERMINSTER Carolians recorded their first ever victory against Old Laurentians after an early onslaught from the visitors.

Both sides started with attacking running rugby and it looked ominous for the home side but a strong Laurentians side were kept at bay by steadfast defence.

The breakthrough for Kidderminster came after 19 minutes when Ryan Teine showed power and pace to score an unconverted try.

Laurentians quickly evened the score after good driving play by their forwards released the backs to score a well taken but unconverted try.

Ryan Teine was a constant threat in attack and scored his second try in the 34th minute after excellent handling and sustained pressure by Carolians.

Superb defence close to the line meant Kidderminster were able to restrict Laurentians to just an additional penalty before the interval.

After the restart Kidderminster's forwards came increasingly into the game and following a series of strong driving mauls Matt Rigsby scored an unconverted try to extend the Carolians' lead.

Rhys Pritchard further extended this gap with a well-taken breakaway try after great defence resulted in turnover ball.

Jess Smith added to the scoring with strong running and a try in the 77th minute and Chris Pinner added a converted try late in the game

Old Laurentians showed great resilience and spirit to finish the game with a converted try to make the final score 34-16.

Kidderminster face Harborne at home in the North Midlands Shield on Saturday.
