A STOURPORT Alpine skier is set to reach the very peak of his sport after being selected for the Great Britain Children's squad.

Ashley Breese, 12, has had his success in the British and Scottish children's Alpine Ski Championships recognised by selectors and is only one of three to be picked in the youngest boys category.

The Stourport High School pupil's first taste of the squad will be on June 21 and 22 with the first summer training camp, before training and competing in France and Austria later in the year.

Breese finished third at the British Championships in the 12 to 13 age group and tasted a victory a week later at the Scottish Championships.

He also won his race at the Welsh-Anglo Championships at the indoor snowdome in Manchester over the weekend.

Mother Cheryl Breese said: "This is the first time that Ashley has been selected for Great Britain so he's nervous and excited.

"But it's another step towards competing on the world stage when he's older and it's a great honour to be picked."

Brother Nathan Breese, 9, is also proving to be a talent on the slopes and finished first and second in his races in the eight to nine-year-old age section at the British Championships.
