FIGHTERS from Samurai Judo Club ran riot at the Salisbury Open Championships, with four students winning a bumper crop of eight medals.

Fifteen year-olds Millie Hancocks and Sarah Biles both cruised to gold in the under-16s section, comfortably defeating all of their opponents by maximum scores.

Meanwhile, Hancock's younger sister Charis, 13, was also in the medals, taking bronze in the under-48 kilogram category.

Hancocks and Biles were in impressive form for the club, winning a host of medals in different age groups.

After success in the under-16s section, the duo took part in the youth categories, which is for fighters aged between 14 and 18-years-old.

Once again Biles and Hancocks looked in dominant form.

Biles won gold with maximum scores all the way, while Hancocks reached the final but was unlucky in her weight category against a strong player from Camberley and had to settle for silver.

The duo still had the energy to take part in the senior events, with Hancocks winning gold in the under-70kg group and also made an impact in the under-78kg section.

Biles, fighting in the under-63kg category, defeated a black belt despite only being at brown level herself, and took points off two other black belts. Several victories saw her reach the semi-finals where she tasted defeat and settled for bronze.

Nicky Haywood added an eighth medal to the tally in the senior under-57kg category, securing gold with four wins out of four in a comfortable and stylish display.

Several of the club's newer referees were using the event to gain more experience, with Amanda Curley-Floyd and Annabel Webb particularly impressing the top referees.

n Biles has been invited to train with the Great Britain Olympic squad in July as they prepare for the Beijing games in August.

Clubmate Kate Walker, who is a back-up for the nation's Olympic squad, will be part of a Great Britain team travelling to Japan in July to train for three weeks.

Walker will test her own skills in traditionally the strongest judo nation in the world.
