THE ladies at Stourport Cricket Club have been showing the men that it’s not only them who can bowl and bat a bit this summer.

The 13-strong team, which was set up in the summer of 2007, train once a week at Walshes Meadow and are aiming to start a women’s cricketing revolution in the Wyre Forest area.

At the moment they have only played once this season, beating Old Elizabethans at home and are set for an away fixture against the same opponents on Sunday, August 3.

However, captain Teresa Moss is hoping that the team will play in the Oak Sports Midlands Women’s League next season, which contains Worcestershire rivals Redditch and Astwood Bank.

“We set up the team last year but have only had one game and we’re trying to play a few more.

“We’re playing two friendlies this year against Old Elizabethans but we’d love to play more games and would like to join a league next season.

“The squad were already playing other sports and we just decided to give it a go and have really enjoyed it.

“We train once a week and have quite a young team and if we do play in the league next year then we will need more people.”

With the team eager to play competitive league cricket they will be eager to add more players.

Anyone interested can attend training at Walshes Meadow between 6.30pm and 8pm on Monday nights.
