Woodford 1
Swifts 2
RICHARD Burgess netted a late winner as Stourport Swifts came from behind to grab a 2-1 victory at Woodford United.
But it wasn't all good news on the opening day of the season as manager Neil Hunt needed to reshuffle his troops following a first half injury to defender Richard Tomkins.
Jack Cudworth handed the home side a 32nd minute lead, placing his shot beyond the dive of Stourport keeper Paul Evans.
The goal was harsh on the visitors though who had spurned a number of chances prior to the goal with Alex Lavery and the impressive Justin Ballinger both going close.
Hunt made another change at the break with Scott Morris replacing the out-of-sorts Robbie Colwell. And the substitute made an instant impact, grabbing Stourport's equaliser on 55 minutes after gathering a Lavery through ball.
Fellow replacement Matt Smith went close on 79 minutes with an effort that the Woodford keeper was forced to turn over the crossbar.
But it was from the resulting corner that Swifts grabbed their winner. Will Gayton's flag kick was not dealt with and Burgess calmly fired the ball home from close range.
Swifts: Evans 7, L Tomkins 8, R Tomkins 7 (Webb 35, 8), Snape 8, Robinson 7, Gardiner 7, Colwell 6 (Morris 46, 8), BALLINGER 9, Lavery 8 (Smith 74), Burgess 8, Gayton 7. Subs (not used): Aldington, Chalmers.
