OLYMPIC hopeful Lucy Wainright goes for glory in the semi-finals of the K1 500m canoe category on Thursday morning.

The 31-year-old from Kidderminster will be competing in the semi-finals, which are set to be held at 9.20am.

If successful she will be in the final, which is scheduled for 8.45am on Saturday.

Wainright made it through her qualifying heat on Tuesday by finishing third in a time of one minute and 50.103 seconds.

“I had a terrible start but once I got going I got into my rhythm,” said Wainright.

Going into Thursday, Wainright is the final Olympian from Wyre Forest with a chance of winning a medal.

Archer Naomi Folkard was unable to progress in the women’s individual archery event after losing in the last 16 to Japan’s Nami Hayakawa.

The 25-year-old had came closest to winning a medal in the team event, when Great Britain had finished fourth.

In the pool, Todd Cooper was unable to progress from the qualifying heats in the 100m butterfly.

The 25-year-old finished fifth to miss out on a place in the last 16.

He set a time of 52.52 seconds in the aquatics centre, finishing behind fellow Brit Michael Rock.

Cooper had to overcome a host of injury problems to qualify for the Great Britain squad.

“It’s been a rough couple of years. I wanted to come here and enjoy myself and put in a good performance. I'm pretty happy with what I did,” added Cooper.
