KIDDERMINSTER Harriers manager Mark Yates is casting his eye over former Aston Villa hitman Stefan Moore as he bids to strengthen his Blue Square Premier promotion chasers.

Yates is having a good look at the 26-year-old hitman, who has trained with Harriers this week and scored twice in Tuesday night’s 5-2 friendly win over Bewdley Town at Ribbesford Meadows.

Yates is determined to strengthen his squad so they can cement their position in the play-off places, after Saturday’s 3-2 win over Eastbourne Borough propelled them into second (read report) .

If the former Queens Park Rangers and Port Vale forward signs then it will mark another busy week of squad restructuring by Harriers’ manager.

He had already drafted in experienced midfielder Neil MacKenzie on a month’s loan from League One side Notts County at the end of last week.

Defender Paul Bignot has also joined Blue Square South outfit Newport County for a month.

“Stefan’s training with us at the moment and he played in our friendly,” said Yates.

“I’m not sure if anything will happen, we’ll just have to wait and see.

“We’re always looking for players to strengthen the squad but I am confident we’ve got a talented group here.

“Neil [MacKenzie] is a bit different from Russ Penn and Andy Ferrell and he’s also got experience from league football.

“We’ve got him on loan and it would be nice to keep him a bit longer but there are other factors to take into account.”

Bignot has been told that Yates won’t stand in his way if he wants to leave the club.

After a successful loan spell at Harriers at the end of 2006, the 26-year-old joined the club on a two-year deal in the summer of 2007.

However, he has fallen down the pecking order and has yet to feature in the first team this campaign.

Yates said: “I’ve had a chat with Paul and I’ve told him I won’t stand in his way if he wants to go.

“This is a chance to put himself in the shop window and find himself a club where he can nail down a first team place.

“It’s not worked out here and there’s a lot of players in front of him at the moment.”

Midfielder Sam Foley is also set to go out on loan before Saturday’s home league clash with Barrow.

The 21-year-old, who joined Harriers on a free in the summer, has yet to play and Yates is keen for him to go out and get some much needed match sharpness.

The manager also wants his side to maintain their excellent form when they play Barrow at home on Saturday and Northwich Victoria away in the league on Tuesday night (7.45pm kick-off).

The pacesetters are on a four-game winning streak and have only lost once in the last nine games.

However, while Yates was full of praise for his side’s performance against Eastbourne, he believes they must learn to kill teams off.

“I thought we played brilliantly against Eastbourne and we just need to learn to finish teams off,”commented the manager.

“We just need to learn the lessons from the game and I’m sure we will.”
