HIGH-scoring Bewdley Town have become the West Midland Premier Division’s great entertainers, according to joint manager Craig Payton.

The Bewdley boss watched his side defeat Wolverhampton Casuals 5-3 on Saturday, to cement the fourth spot in the table.

Bewdley are the division’s top scorers so far, bagging 40 goals, but also have a leaky defence, conceding 26 in the first 13 games this season.

“We love to attack and score goals but the only problem is we let a few in at the other end as well,” said Payton.

“We like to entertain and if there’s one thing people are guaranteed when they come and watch us is goals from both sides.”

Town were in dominant mood on Saturday and Chris Hough put his side ahead early on, before a spectacular 25-yard lob doubled Bewdley’s lead.

Hough turned provider as Craig Forbes’s diving header ensured Town took a 3-0 lead into half-time.

Casuals pulled a goal back but a brace from Lewis Pountney made sure of victory.

The manager rang the changes with three substitutions near the end and the disruption saw Wolverhampton pull two goals back.

Payton said: “We went 5-1 up and I brought the three substitutes on.

“It knocked us out of our stride a little bit and Wolverhampton grabbed a couple of goals.

“Before that we had been totally dominant and it was another great performance.

“We’ve gone on a three match run and now it’s important we maintain our good position in the table.”

Bewdley will have left-back Gary Middleton available for Saturday’s league game against Ellesmere at home after he served a three-match suspension.

“I’m surprised they are in such a low position, because I thought they’d be a title contender,” said the manager.

“They will make it hard for us and we’ll have to be at our best.”
