STOURPORT were denied a draw as a late winner ensured they suffered a 2-1 defeat away at Cardiff in the Conference West on Saturday.

The away side had looked destined to earn a battling point in Wales, before the hosts grabbed a late winner.

Defeat, Stourport's third of the season, saw them slip to third from bottom, just one place above the relegation zone.

Stourport had slipped behind in the first minute, after Che Makan had fired Cardiff ahead.

But the visitors responded and David Devey levelled the scores from open play in the 36th minute.

The home side had the last laugh when Mark Ramage scored from a penalty corner.

A strike by Sophie Harris was half cleared by Sutton, only for Fran Moss to run in on the rebound and fire the ball past Sutton's keeper.

Stourport keeper Sophie Wood made some excellent saves to keep the Birmingham side at bay, before Sarah Cavendish finished off a driving run to make it 2-0.

Melissa Kennedy made it 3-0 just before half-time, after good play by Georgi Burns and Kate Fletcher.

Their opponents pulled a goal back but keeper Wood ensured Stourport maintained their two-goal lead with a fine save late on.

The seconds got the better of Old Silhillians 1sts team 5-0 in the Worcestershire League Division One, with goals for Hannah Goss (2), Nicky Beasley, Molly Weaver and Caroline Siddell.

The third team lost 2-0 at the hands of Badsey, while the fourths went down 4-2 to Tenbury's seconds.

Kidderminster women's first home game of the season in the Worcestershire League Division One ended in a 6-0 loss to Redditch.

The team never recovered from an early goal, despite fine performances by Kay McDonald and Rebecca Weaver.
