CREWS from up and down the region took part in Stourport Boat Club’s Head Race, but it was the hosts who excelled.
Rowers enjoyed contrasting weather over the weekend, which saw bright sunshine deteriorate into cold and windy conditions.
The hosts had 11 wins, while neighbours Bewdley enjoyed eight victories.
Over 140 crews, representing clubs from Worcester, Evesham, Gloucester, Stratford, Bristol, Ross, Upton, Hereford and Birmingham took part in the tournament.
Stourport’s veteran quad battled through the rain to win their race to defeat Upton and Bewdley by well over a minute.
Two home crews, the women’s senior two four and the men’s veteran B four, shook off the gruelling effects of racing along the University Boat race course on the Thames the previous day to win their events.
Stourport men’s senior two quad had the fastest time of the day, setting 11 minutes and 41 seconds to pip Upton into second.
Both Stourport and Bewdley use winter racing as a development stage for junior and senior crews as they try and earn spots in the Great Britain squad.
