HEAD coach Dave Irish believes his Kidderminster Carolians players need to cut out the elementary errors that have blighted their season.

KCs have struggled to find their form in the Midlands Division Three West (South) and to make matters worse a late penalty at Bridgnorth knocked them out of the EDF Senior Vase on Saturday.

The coach was forced to play because of injuries and absences, which gave him more insight to where it is going wrong for the Marlpool Lane side.

Irish said: “I think the players need to trust and learn how the team plays,” commented the coach.

“I thought we had sorted this problem out, but too many players are making elementary mistakes because they are unsure of how the team plays.

“On Saturday we gave away nearly 20 penalties for minor infringements and it is hurting us.

“We played all the expansive rugby but we gifted too many penalties and allowed Bridgnorth opportunities to hurt us.

“I think we have the personnel to do well but we need to work on trusting each other.”

Stuart Such and Tom Maher are both doubts for KCs’ league match at Newbold on Saturday.

KCs are currently in 10th place after only two wins this season, but Irish is confident that if the errors can be cut out they can still launch an assault on the top five.

Irish said: “We’ve come very close to winning matches only to shoot ourselves in the foot.

“I am confident that if we learn from our mistakes we are playing good enough rugby to beat anyone.

“The only side I believe we have played so far that has been better than us is Old Laurentians.”
