Walker wins Sports Personality

SAMURAI Judo Club's 2012 London Olympics hopeful Kate Walker has been voted the Shuttle/Times and News' Sports Personality of 2008.

The gifted Kidderminster teenager saw off stiff competition from kickboxer Drew Neal and alpine skier Ashley Breese to win the month poll with 36 per cent of the votes.

The competition was fiercely contested and we had over 1,600 votes on our website, which smashed the number we had for last year's competition.

Neal ended up with 30 per cent, while Stourport's Breese was a close third with 27.

Paralympic Games bronze medal winner Claire Cashmore and Cleobury Mortimer powerlifter Tony Brown shared the rest of the votes.
