KEEPER Karl Lewis was the bane of Stourport pulling off a string of late saves to deny revenge for the Swifts as they had to settle for a 0-0 draw against Bromsgrove Rovers at Walshes Meadow.

The home side, looking to amend for their seven-goal drubbing at the hands of their county neighbours last week, went close three times in the final five minutes, but three times Lewis was on hand to prevent a breakthrough.

Chances were at a premium in the first half, Kevin Banner firing wide from Tom Warmer’s corner for Bromsgrove on 34 minutes while Chris Cornes fired wide for Swifts before teammate Beng’yela Ngwa blazed over the bar just on half-time.

Stourport started well after the break with Nathan Jukes sending a deflected shot just over the target before Mark Owen lofted over Lewis’ bar again after a cross from Ngwa.

The final 20 minutes saw Stourport raise their game with Cornes being foiled in front of goal by Chris McHale’s challenge before former Swift favourite Paul Lloyd cleared Harry Etheridge’s shot off the line.

Lewis then came to Bromsgrove’s rescue in the final few minutes. He produced an outstanding stop to deny Owen five minutes from time and then pushed an Andy Jones header away for a corner.

The resulting flag kick caused chaos in the goalmouth but the Rovers keeper was again alert to snuff out the danger.
