STOURPORT Hockey Club stars Phil Lashford and Mark Moss saw their wonderful efforts for the club recognised after receiving national awards.

Lashford was presented with an award for scoring 150 National League goals during an illustrious career, while first team captain Mark Moss was named the England Hockey Association’s Young Performance Coach of the year at the EHA’s first ever National Awards ceremony in Nottingham.

Goal-machine Lashford, who made his National League debut in the 1992-93 season, scored all of the goals for Stourport and grabbed his 150th against Cardiff in the Men’s Conference West in the latest campaign.

The 33-year-old , who has 154 National League goals to his name, said: “It feels good to have scored 150 goals, as I have been keeping count since I was informed I had scored 100, that meant that I felt some pressure as I got close to 150.

“Now that I have achieved it I can relax and get back to scoring more goals.

“I would not have got anywhere near 150 goals if Stourport had not managed to maintain it’s National League status since its inception in the 1980s.”

Lashford also paid tribute to coach David Knott, who coached him for much if his hockey career.

At the EHA National Awards, Moss was presented with his coaching award for his success at coaching at senior and junior levels.

The 27-year-old, who has been with the club for eight years and has coached them for five, said: “I’m both delighted and proud to have received this award and would like to thank all those who have supported me throughout my career.”

Moss was shortlisted for the awards by the national coaching team after being nominated by the EHA.

He was appointed as head coach at the Junior Regional Performance Centre JRPC before coaching at Cannock JRPC.

He also coached at the first High Performance Assessment Camp (HiPAC), before coaching the Mercia Lynx under-18 boys at the England Futures Cup.

The coach led Stourport ladies to promotion to the Midlands Division One and their under-18s team to the last eight of the cup.

He also worked with Bromsgrove School’s under-16s, who made it to the finals of the National Indoor Hockey Championships.

There was even more silverware for the club, which saw second team captain Shelley Tromans receive the Worcestershire League Division One trophy at the county’s annual general meeting.

The ladies finished six points clear of nearest rivals Harborne and will play in the Midland Conference League next season. They also boasted the division’s leading goal-scorer, Caroline Siddell, who has already received her award for bagging 24 goals.

The club also held its end of season awards ceremony, with Ken Mothersdale picking up an award for his dedication.
