COOKLEY CC suffered a set back in the Worcestershire County League Division Three as they went down by nine wickets at the hands of Stourbridge.

Having been inserted to bat first, the Lea Lane men made a slow start and with the top order removed cheaply, Cookley never recovered and were dismissed for only 70.

The hosts took 17 overs to make their target for the loss of only one wicket, but they made sure of their victory before the heavy rain.

It was a double defeat for Cookley on Saturday as the second string were beaten at Lea Lane by Stourbridge.

The visitors made 219-8 from their 50 overs, as skipper Mark Hadley weighed in with three wickets for the hosts.

Cookley made a strong start in their run chase with Ian Benbow (48) and Chris Lewis (33) making runs in the middle order.

Late wickets began to tumble though and hosts couldn't quite hold on for the draw and were bowled out for 205.

On Sunday, Cookley were saved by the rain on Sunday as their Border Sunday League Division Two clash with Enville finished in a draw.

The Lea Lane outfit batted first and were bowled out for 118, as only skipper Simon Cook (55) really made any impression on the visiting attack.

Enville looked good value for victory as they reached 74-2 for the loss of two wickets but heavy showers in Cookley made any further play impossible and the match finished in a draw.
