SPIRITED Cookley CC held leaders Rushwick to a draw this week in the Worcester County League Division Three this week.

Having won the toss and electing to field, Cookley restricted the table toppers to 222-6 from their 50 overs, as Adam Nicholls (5-75) weighed in with the lion's share of the wickets.

The run chase looked on for the home side as Nicholls and Mark Bennett both hit 42, but the loss of crucial wickets in the middle order cost dear and despite a lusty 61 from Simon Cook, Cookley were left to bat out the last over in a last-wicket stand and reached 201-9.

It was a similar tale for Cookley's second string, who escaped with a losing draw on the road at Feckenham, They kept their hosts down to 187-9 from their 50 overs, as Simon Anderson (5-51) once again did the damage with the ball.

Cookley made good progress in their run chase but despite an encouraging partnership between Dan Soley and Martin Williams, it was left for the final pair to ensure that they managed a losing draw as they made 171-9.

On Sunday, both of Cookley's games fell foul of the weather this week despite some play being possible.

The first eleven reached 118-4 from 17 overs in their clash at Oldswinford before the downpour, with 28 from Nigel Mahon and Paul Thomas left unbeaten on 43.

The second team had Oldswinford's second string in a precarious position at Lea Lane with the visitors reduced to 90-4, thanks to three wickets from Brian Davies, however the rain finished as the only winner in both matches.
