KIDDERMINSTER Victoria CC powered into the final of the Graham Williamson Trophy after beating Walsall by three wickets on Sunday.

The Chester Road side will now meet Kenilworth Wardens in the final, after the Warwickshire side overcame Smethwick in the other semi-final.

Victory washed away the disappointment of losing the semi-finals of the ECB 20/20 Cup last weekend.

But KVCC had to hold their nerve and win an exciting game with the penultimate ball.

After winning the toss, KVCC skipper Jonathan Wright put their opponents from the Black Country into bat.

Andy Gray (41), Qadoos Rashid (39) and Jack Shantry (22) top scored for Walsall.

KVCC's bowlers conceded 38 extras with Ted Baylis taking 2-24 and Mark Mansell 2-33.

James Ralph took 1-13, Andy Siwicki and Wright both 1-27, while Matt Pardoe held four catches.

In reply, openers Matt Pardoe opened in style and struck six boundaries as he powered to 35, while Ian Kimberlin batted patiently for 27 overs for his 34.

But it was the partnership of 46 between Ted Baylis and Wright that turned the game in KVCC's favour.

Wright was stumped by James Middleton and bowled Mark Green for 26, but Baylis defied some tight bowling to win the match in the final over.

His partner, Jamie Brighton, was seven not out, but Baylis was unbeaten for 43 which included three sixes.

Paul Wicker and Mark Green each took two wickets and Gareth Williams one but Gray was not only Walsall’s top scorer, but their best bowler with figures of 8-4-10-1 deserving better.

Victory also made up for Saturday's Birmingham and District League Premier Division clash against Walmley being abandoned because of the rain.

With all the matches in the top division called off, KVCC remain in fourth place, 38 points behind leaders Knowle and Dorridge.

KVCC will be hoping to cut the gap when they go to the leaders in the league on Saturday (noon start).
