COOKLEY CC got back to winning ways in the Worcestershire League Division Three with a five-wicket victory over relegation threatened Amblecote & Wollaston.

They dismissed the visitors for 186 inside 48 overs and always looked comfortable in the run chase, as Simon Cook blasted a superb 105 not out to lead the Lea Lane men to victory with nearly eight overs remaining.

The seconds gained the lion's share of the points in their clash at Amblecote & Wollaston, despite eventually failing to dismiss their hosts in a one-sided winning draw.

Cookley piled up 271-3 in their 50 overs, as the evergreen Phil Dixon lead the charge with a knock of 133.

He was well supported by youngster Harry Madeley (62) as the combination of experience and youth shared a fourth-wicket stand of 141.

The hosts never looked like making the target but wickets were hard to come by for Cookley and despite 3-23 from Dan Soley, Amblecote closed on 148-6.

On Sunday, Cookley claimed their first victory of the Border Sunday League Division Two campaign in a nail-biting finish against Kinver at Lea Lane.

Kinver made 173-7 from their alotted 40 overs, as Soley and Ryan Parker picked up two wickets apiece.

A half-century from Simon Kirby and 54 not out from the in-form Cook ensured Cookley just about edged home tp 174-8.
