FA Cup fourth qualifying round

GOALKEEPER Dean Coleman produced a man-of-the match performance as Harriers were held by impressive Fleetwood at Aggborough on Saturday.

The shot-stopper didn't let an uncertain first half affect him as he produced a slew of saves after the break to keep Micky Mellon's outfit at bay.

The draw was a fair result as the Blue Square North side more than matched Harriers throughout and can count themselves unlucky not to have scored.

That was mainly down to Coleman, who produced three impressive stops during an end-to-end second half.

Harriers made two changes to the side that defeated Crawley in the Blue Square Premier last week.

Captain Chris McPhee was picked up front to play with Matthew Barnes-Homer after recovering from an ankle injury, while David McDermott returned to the starting line-up because of a niggly injury to Dean Bennett, who was dropped to the substitutes' bench.

The visitors showed their attacking intentions from the start and forced several corners. Sean Clancy came close for the away side when he saw a low shot swerve just wide of keeper Coleman's bottom left-hand post.

Harriers had their first effort in the sixth minute but McDermott's effort was high over the bar.

But the away side continued to be the better team and Milligan's impressive left foot was giving keeper Coleman nightmares.

The shot-stopper allowed a tantaslising cross from the Fleetwood playmaker fly to past him, with lanky midfielder Nathan Pond lurking menacingly.

The hosts survived a scare when striker Gareth Seddon raced onto a pass from Pond but with just the keeper to beat he blazed over the bar. Luckily for Harriers the flag went up for offside.

Another chance went begging for the away side as Harriers' defence creaked but Tom Cahill shot over the bar.

Harriers were struggling to get into the game and a good chance was wasted by Barnes-Homer, who smashed his free-kick from 25-yards out high over the bar in the 20th minute.

Brian Smikle signalled Harriers' attacking credentials in the 28th minute. Barnes-Homer beat his man on the wing and pulled the ball back to the forward, who lofted a ball goal-wards, only for keeper Danny Hurst to arch backwards and pull off a fine one-handed save.

McDermott, who was booked for kicking the ball away, then jinked his way into Fleetwood's box but Hurst made a decent low save.

Harriers continued to probe and Duane Courtney delivered a raking cross that just evaded Smikle and Barnes-Homer in the 36th minute.

Yates was incensed when Clancy wasn't booked for a clumsy challenge from behind on McDermott as he raced down the right wing. From the resulting free-kick, McPhee directed a diving header off target.

John Finnigan blazed over the bar two minutes into the second half but the visitors continued to look sharper.

A comedy of errors almost allowed the away side to score in the 51st minute. Finnigan lost the ball in midfield to Clancy, Gavin Caines failed to cut out the midfielder's throughball to Cahill. Luckily, the hitman's hot canonned off Coleman's chest and Harriers were allowed to regroup.

A half-chance fell to Smikle on the hour-mark when he drove a shot into the ground. That was the hitman's final action as he was replaced by substitute Kyle Hadley.

Fleetwood had another good chance to go ahead in the 63rd minute, when the dangerous Pond stooped to meet Milligan's free-kick at the far post but headed it wide.

Coleman kept the scores level with a fine 77th minute save. The keeper was at full-stretch to tip over Seddon's 30-yard blockbuster.

Harriers survived a scare when Milligan's shot deflected wide off Caines but flew the just wide of goal.

At the other end Caines, who had been thrust forward by Yates, saw a thunderous effort pushed away athletically by Hurst.

Coleman, who also denied Clancy, produced more heroics in the 87th minute when he put Milligan's accurate free-kick over the bar.

Harriers suffered a setback when McPhee was shown a straight red card for a late challenge on Jamie McGuire. That meant he would miss the replay at Highbury Stadium on Tuesday night (7.45pm kick-off).
