RESURGENT Kidderminster Carolians made it back-to-back wins in the Midlands Division Two West (South) with a 13-7 away victory over Berkswell and Balsall on Saturday.

KCs produced a hard-working performance to build on last week's win over Bedworth and further cement their mid-table position.

Victory also re-ignited hopes that the Marlpool Lane side can secure a top four finish this season. Currently, they are one of three sides just two points behind fourth-placed Old Silhillians.

Playing against a strong wind and up a steep slope in the first half at Berkswell, KCs inevitably found themselves on the back foot in the opening exchanges.

The hosts missed the chance to take an early lead in the very first minute when a presentable penalty chance hit a post, but they drew first blood with a converted try 15 minutes into the game.

The away team responded strongly and from a ruck, full-back Andy McLellan's well-timed pass allowed winger Nick Martin to evade Berkswell's defence to touch down.

McLellan also kicked the conversion to level the scores.

Inspired by an awesome performance by skipper Layton Wilkinson, the visitors had far more of the play than they could have expected with the elements against them.

McLellan came close to giving KCs the lead at the end of the half but his penalty drifted wide.

But his ever-reliable boot kicked them ahead after the break, when he finished of some fine work by the forwards with a drop-goal.

KCs continued to control the game but could not find the decisive score to kill off the home team but McLellan made sure of victory with a penalty late on.

They face a pool friendly game on Saturday as they are no longer involved in the Midlands Intermediate Cup.

In the Midlands Division Four West (South), Cleobury Mortimer drew 0-0 with Eccleshall.

Second-placed Chaddesley Corbett defeated Bromyard 12-3 in the Midlands Division Five (South West).
