STOURPORT Ladies were held to a 2-2 draw by Beeston seconds in the Midlands Hockey League Division One on Saturday.

Despite Fran Moss giving them the lead, third-placed Stourport were unable to hold off the team directly below them in the table.

Stourport took the lead through a short corner converted by Moss which took them into a half-time lead.

The start of the second though began well for Beeston, who managed to grab two goals and power into a 2-1 lead, despite the best efforts of Stourport’s player of the match Kerry Maughan in defence.

Stourport continued to work hard and eventually found an equaliser from the stick of Heidi Devey, who swept the ball into the goal from the top of the area. Despite forcing a short corner towards the end of the match Stourport had to settle for a draw and only the one point.

A brace by Pippa Lewis helped the seconds to a 4-3 win over Towcester seconds in the Midlands Conference South.

Stourport created a host of chances early on against the bottom side but Towcester took a two-goal lead.

Holly Lashford pulled one back when she pounced on Shelley Tromans’ shot from a corner.

In the second half, Stourport stepped it up a gear and dominated the match, with Lewis levelling the scores.

Tromans fired Stourport into the lead and Lewis bagged the winner.

Towcester pulled a goal back after five corners but Stourport, inspired by Becky Urch, Lashford and Fran Baron, held on for victory.

In the Worcestershire League Division Two, the third team got the better of Droitwich seconds 6-1 to return to the top of the table.

With Alice Wood marshalling their defence, Stourport went on the attack and Lauren Homer opened the scoring.

Goals for Georgi Hingley (2) and Rhiannon Linnington-Payne handed them a 4-0.

Droitwich pulled a goal back early in the second half but Hayley Ryan and captain Teresa Moss completed the rout with two more goals.

Stourport’s fourth team were too strong for Nunnery Wood in Division Three and ran out 4-1 winners, with Louise Marshall (2), Caroline Wilson and Kate Bailey scoring.

Kidderminster ladies lost 5-2 to Old Silhillians in the County League. They had a mountain to climb after their opponents powered into a 3-0 lead. After the break, Kay McDonald and Hannah Boyce hit the target back but a two-goal salvo from Silhillians ensured their defeat.
