FULL-BACK Lee Baker is aiming to ditch his recent Wembley woes and help fire Harriers to victory over Stevenage Borough in the FA Trophy semi-final.

The attack-minded defender has been to the 90,000 seater state of the art stadium three times only to experience a hat-trick of disappointment.

Harriers have 180 minutes against the Trophy holders to book their place at the new home of English football for the second time in four years.

In the 2006-07 campaign, as a youngster with West Bromwich Albion, he watched the Baggies lose to Derby County in the Championship play-off final.

A year later his Wembley hoodoo continued when he witnessed Albion edged out 1-0 by eventual winners Portsmouth in the FA Cup semi-final.

Last season, Baker went to support former Albion team-mates Luke Daniels and Chris Humphrey in Shrewsbury Town’s League Two play-off against Gillingham, only for them to be sunk by Simeon Jackson’s late strike.

This season, Baker has experienced more Wembley disappointment as boyhood idols Aston Villa lost the League Cup final 2-1 to Manchester United, although this time he watched it on television.

“I’ve been to Wembley three times to watch games and I've never the team I was supporting actually win,” he said.

“I’ve seen Shrewsbury lose in the play-offs and West Bromwich Albion go down twice there in the FA Cup semi-finals and Play-off final.

player but you can’t think about that right now, you must concentrate on semi-finals and then you will get your rewards.

“I’m an Aston Villa fan and they’ve made it there as well, so it would be great to follow them to Wembley and go one better.”

Harriers’ run to the semi-finals has also allowed Baker to undergo a rejuvenation after he was the villain in the FA Cup earlier this season.

His sending off at Fleetwood Town led to Harriers’ 3-1 defeat in the fourth qualifying round replay in October.

After serving his three-match ban, Baker found it difficult to win back his starting place as on-loan Peterborough man Daniel Andrew was preferred.

But once Andrew left in January, Baker has made the left side of defence his own and been an ever-present since then, including playing against Lewes, Worcester and Oxford in the Trophy.

“I missed the Stevenage game in December as I had just came back from suspension but wasn’t in the team,” commented the defender.

“I’ve got myself match fit now and I am really enjoying playing football at the moment.

“It’s no secret that I like to get forward and support Brian Smikle but it’s important that I get back and defend as well.

“We’ve kept a lot of clean sheets of late and I think that’s down to how well the team and back four in particular are defending.”
