SAMURAI Judo Club scooped four medals at the Sasakawa Open Champions with Sarah Biles leading the way with gold.

Biles defeated clubmate Sally Moon in the final of her category and controlled the bout to comfortably win gold and leave her opponent with silver.

Despite defeat, the tournament was a success for Moon, who had recorded three excellent wins on the way to the final, one of those against her twin sister Rachel.

Bryony Griffiths added another bronze in the girls lightweights category, including an excellent win against a Pinewood girl who had beaten her several times in the past. Brendan Crummy was the only Samurai boy taking part and he won a bronze medal in his run which included an excellent maximum point throw in his last contest.

Samurai recently held their latest grading sessions, with Sally Moon and Rachel Moon and Jess Sullivan promoted to senior brown belt. Neil Dawes also gained his red belt.

In the juniors, Dan Watson and Crummy gained top green belt and brothers Arran and Rory Gulliver both earned middle green.

Ryan Humphries and Tom Richardson were promoted to top orange, Hayden Clarke moved to middle orange, Ben Jordan moved to top yellow and Hamish Beaumont and Jack Cahill went to middle yellow.

Alex Johnson, Jack Hinton, Brandon Lewis, Michael Thompson and Callum Charles all gained their yellow belts.

Tommy Palfreyman, Ellie Griffiths, Joshua Smith, Ryan Hardiman and Mark Howard-Jones all gained top red belts, while Seb Moule and Thomas Harrison both moved to middle red.

Newcomers Maisy Barber, Charlotte Read, Jessica Richards, Kyle Whitmore, Nathan Gallacher, Patrick Kealey and Silas Moule all gained their first grade red belts.
