ROWING: There was plenty of eigth-man crew success for Bewdley RC at the Ironbridge Regatta at the weekend.
The veterans E over-55s crew of Rob Jackson, Hadyn Hughes, Paul Warnett, Steve Hines, Ed Mol, John Fazakerley, Rob Parker and Mik Edmonds, coxed by Laura Ray, showed younger competitors in the over-50s age section how it’s done by coming from behind to see off Pengwern and win the race.
A junior eight crew of 16-year-olds also won their novices in a senior event, despite trailing at the half way stage.
Ashley Pain won his pot in the single sculls, one heat of which saw him close to catching a women’s fours race ahead of him.
The following day, on the shorter 500 metre spring course, the junior 15 boys coxed four beat Ross by two lengths in the final.
Then a 13-year-old double overcame equipment problems at the start of the race to overtake Burton Leander and win by a boat length in the final.
