MIDFIELDER John Finnigan's time at Harriers has come to an end after his contract was cancelled by mutual consent.

The 34-year-old has not played a competitive game this season after picking up an injury in the final pre-season game at Hednesford.

The former Cheltenham man ends a frustrating time at Aggborough.

He has been hampered by persistent calf and achilles problems and only played 26 games since joining in the summer of 2009.

However, during that time he was caretaker manager for three games and gave a glimpse of his talent in a tantalising 10 game spell between January and March.

Harriers manager Steve Burr had been eager to keep him as a member of his playing staff for this season but has not been able to use him.

Finnigan, who has just completed his UEFA B licence and aims to do his A coaching badge as well.

He said: "I have been here a year and a half and I would have loved to contribute more on the pitch.

"I'm disappointed that I haven't been able to offer more here.

"I think I have done my bit off the pitch in terms of the dressing room but injuries have just put paid to what I can do as a player.

"The most frustrating thing is that it has been out setback after another.

"If you break your leg or have a serious injury and someone tells you 'you're finished' at least you know where you are.

"But I've come near to fitness on more than one occasion only for something else to flare up again.

""I am disappointed but Kidderminster is a fantastic club and I have really enjoyed my time here.

"A break at the moment is probably what I need.

"Who knows what will happen in the future, maybe I can get myself fit and I think the door is open here."

Harriers boss Steve Burr also believes Finnigan could grace the pitch at Aggborough again in the future.

"I've sat down with John and we've come to an agreement, it's best for him now to have a good rest and see what happens.

"Where are losing an experienced lad and a thorough professional, we're leaving the door open to see what happens and he still may be able to get involved if the situation arises."
