KIDDERMINSTER kickboxer Drew Neal savoured double medal success at the WAKO European Championships but missed out on his much sought after gold in Greece at the weekend.

Neal added to his British and World titles in Athens but had to settle for bronze after losing to eventual winner Krisztián Jároszkievicz in the under-89 kilogram division.

He also captained a three-man team to silver, beating Russia and Italy on the way, before losing to Hungary in the final.

Neal was disappointed to lose to his Hungarian opponent and friend Jároszkievicz, who had stepped up from the under-84kg category.

“I had a great time and although the medal was not the colour I wanted I was so happy with my performance and to lose out to a fellow world champion in such a close match is no disgrace,” he said.

Neal is set to end the year by taking part in a challenge match in Sicily next week, when he will be captain a GB again.

This year, Neal has won the WAKO British titie as well as silver medals at the Irish Open and Italian Opens.

He has also coached Tom Evans, who won a junior world title.
