CASH-STRAPPED Harriers have put top scorer Chris McPhee up for sale.

McPhee has been one of the club's leading lights with nine goals this season and the Aggborough outfit will be hoping to off-load his wages and perhaps generate some money from a sale.

Harriers are in desperate need to find some cash as they struggle to pay-off debts of up to £120,000.

The possible departure of McPhee will be a blow to manager Steve Burr's hopes of guiding his inexpensively assembled side into the promised land of the Blue Square Bet Premier play-offs.

It's the latest setback for Burr and his squad, who have defied the odds and expectation to mount a promotion bid. Harriers have also had five points deducted for a breach of Conference financial reporting rules.

The manager was informed at the start of January that he would not be able to add any new players to his squad without releasing funds.

McPhee is the club's biggest wage earner but is also well-respected in the league and the club's board will be hoping generate a keen interest in their prize asset.

The striker had already turned down a move to Crawley Town in December.

A disappointed Burr said: "It's obviously disappointing that we've had to take this step, as you never want to lose your best players and Chris has done very well for us this season.

"The club has made the decision and we need to respect that."
