IMPRESSIVE Chaddesley Corbett bounced back from a heavy opening day defeat to record a 60-run victory over Himbleton in Division Three.

Victory lifted Corbett into second place after two games because the majority of their rivals saw their games abandoned because of wet weather.

After losing the toss and being put into bat, Chaddesley’s openers started brightly and quickly moved the score to 42.

However, once Sam Boden (21) and Matt Yardley (15) both fell with the score on 42, runs became harder to come by. Late resistance from captain Tom Boden (22) and Jack Medley (12) guided them to 124 all out.

At tea Chaddesley knew this was a below-par score on a good hard wicket, but they felt confident that if they could grab some early wickets then they were very much still in the game.

This was duly provided by Tom Mole Jnr (5-31), who produced a stunning opening spell of fast swing bowling to rip out the first five batsmen and leave Himbleton hoping for rain to save themselves from defeat.

Debutant Brandon Tai (3-21) could not save them and the last wicket was taken just 20 minutes before the heavens opened.

Elsewhere in Division Three, Corbett’s Wyre Forest rivals Cookley and Stourport saw respective matches against Lye and Birlingham called off because of the wet weather.

Meanwhile in Division One, Bewdley had to settle for a losing draw against Droitwich.

Asked to bat, Bewdley ran up a competitive total, with Nick Wilkinson (48) anchoring the innings sensibly, and captain Rob Combes riding his luck a little for a brisk 71.

Ben Jones Jnr (22) again looked in good nick before being cruelly run out, and Gareth Lewis made an attractive 36 not out as Bewdley recorded 225-7.

After rain stopped play, Droitwich were given the advantage to take risks and raced to 129-2 off 29 overs.

Meanwhile in Division Four, Brintons Chainwire put Martley to the sword with a 141-victory. Put into bat, Brintons recovered from 38-3 to make 204 all out, with Craig Homer (31) and James Woolhams (32) top-scoring.

In reply, Martley got off to a terrible start losing their first wicket in the opening over and then slumped to 14-4.

Waldron took eight wickets for 31 runs in an impressive spell of bowling as Martley were dismissed for 63.
