KIDDERMINSTER Victoria moved away from the bottom half of the Birmingham and District League Premier Division with a comfortable eight-wicket win over Leamington on Saturday.

Victory, inspired by Neil Pinner's six-wicket haul and Craig Wood's century, lifted the Chester Road side to seventh in the table.

Their second win of the season was achieved despite rain once again delaying the start.

A delayed start due to rain saw the match reduced to 46 overs with KVCC electing to field Leamington lost two early wickets, with Alex Phillips (6) and David Bailey (2), both bowled by Richard Kimberlin and caught respectively by Andrew Kimberlin and Duncan Willetts.

A stand of 89 took the total up to 100 before Mark Lewis was dismissed lbw by Neil Pinner after hitting 43.

His brother Tom had scored 57 when he was stumped by wicketkeeper Willetts, giving Pinner his second wicket.

The score had reached 133 but only 34 more runs were added before the Leamington innings closed.

Lee Hopkins was caught by Wood off Pinner's bowling for 21 and Michael Balac was caught by Jonathan Wright and bowled Pinner for one. That gave Pinner his fifth wicket.

He got a sixth when he had Uddit Talati out lbw for eight. Rob Williams was 12 not out as Leamington were restricted to 167-8.

The hosts got off to a good start when a good opening partnership between Wood and Andrew Kimberlin produced 78 runs.

The opening stand was broken when Kimberlin was out lbw to Jason Young for 34 runs.

Pinner did not have the success he had had with the ball and only reached seven when he was caught by Balac and bowled by Faisal Khalid.

However, Wood was in superb form as he found the bowling to his liking.

Together with James Ralph (20 not out) they guided KVCC to 171-2, with Wood smashing 14 boundaries and a six on the way to a comprehensive win.

KVCC face another tough test on Saturday when they take on local rivals and in-form second-placed Himley away (noon start).

Meanwhile, KVCC progressed into the next round of the League Twenty/20 Cup by seeing off Old Hill.

Wood was in good form, taking five wickets for 16 runs and scoring 52 to put the Black Country side to the sword. Marc Edwards also hit 36 runs.

Old Hill were kept to 122 all out in 17 overs, with KVCC making 126-3 in reply.

They travel to Barnards Green in the next round on Wednesday, June 29 with a 6.30pm start.
