EMILY Hyde was named Bewdley Pines’s new junior champion.

The 16-year-old shot a course record score of 68 in her first round.

The title caps a fine year for Hyde, who has a handicap of 5.2, as she was runner-up in the Junior Girls County Championship and was named Baxter College’s female Sports Personality.

The Senior’s Hobday Trophy was won by Joe Brooks and Bill Porter with 48 points, while in second-place were John Campion and Roger Hardeman with 41, followed by Barrie Hickman and Nick Hancox in third.

The seniors lost to Abbey in Redditch 6-2, with Paul Taylor and John Phillips, Norman Howard and Alan Hart, Mike Winwood and Frank Shillingford and Gary Wellings and Brian Pollard halving their matches.

The Ladies Tuesday July stableford was won by Sue Cooper, who recorded 40 points. Gill Gatland was second (39), followed by Joyce Kerrigan (37).

Jean Brayshaw won the Ladies Saturday July Stableford with 39 points, with Cathy Watkins (37) runner-up and Gill Gatland (33) third.

n A junior from Little Lakes GC met Ryder Cup hero Ian Poulter after being invited to take part in the English golf star's invitational tournament.

Ethan Davies was recommended by Little Lakes professional Mark Laing for the tournament at Woburn, which saw 99 juniors from across the country compete.

The round was played on the tough Marquess course which was set up as a tour event to give all the players tournament golf conditions.

Davies, who is coached by Rob Laing, got to meet Poulter and was also given a goody bag containing a yet to be released junior shirt and cap from the 2012 IJP junior range as well as a host of other goodies.

After 18 holes, each group of players from the tournament were given advice on their shots. Poulter also held a 45 minute clinic regarding all aspects of the game from fitness to psychology to ball striking and shot-shaping.

Meanwhile, Julian Brown won Littl Lakes’ championship by seeing off Joshua Thorpe in a hard fought contest over two days. After the first day, they were neck-and-neck but Brown’s 76 gross on the Sunday ensured he beat Thorpe into second by five shots with an aggregate score of 148. Former captain Steve Flavell was third with 155.

Little Lakes’ scratch team returned from a tough match away at Gaudet Luce with a superb 4 1/2 to 3 1/2 win. Flavell won 2-1, Clive Dorrell won 4-3, Kevin Phillips won 4-3, while Darren Ballinger won 2-0, Jason Albutt halved, Mike Abbott lost 6-4, Nathan Jones lost by one hole and Rob Shaw lost 4-3.

The win now puts Little Lakes top of their division with five more games to go.
