Harriers boss Steve Burr lamented his side's work rate and striker Steve Guinan's sending off after Tuesday night's 5-2 defeat at Fleetwood in the Blue Square Bet Premier.

The Aggborough outfit were put to the sword as Fleetwood scored on the stroke of half-time and then bagged four more in the second period.

All the goals came after both teams had seen a player sent off mid-way through the second half.

Fleetwood had seen Jamie Vardy dismissed for a reckless two-footed challenge of Lee Vaughan, while Guinan was also sent off after pushing Fleetwood skipper Jamie McGuire, who had raised his hands to the Harriers hitman in the ensuing melee following the first incident.

"I think Steve's let us down, he's a great professional and an experienced lad and I didn't expect that from him," commented Burr.

"In the heat of the moment these things do happen.

"It was a horrendous challenge and a straight red for their lad and we'd have been looking at 11 versus 10 that at the point, but Steve got involved and had to go as well, which was disappointing from our point of view."

The goals came after that flash point with two strikes either side of half-time changing the course of the game.

Burr said: "It went all wrong when both sides went down to 10 men and the Fleetwood worked a lot harder than us.

"I thought we were in control of the game in the first half but there was the incident when the two lads were sent off and we lost our way.

"It was a pivotal moment because 11 versus 11 we controlled the game and made some good chances.

"Even after the sendings off, Marc Williams had a great opportunity to put us in front and we didn't take it.

"But I thought Fleetwood's lads worked a lot harder than us in the second half, which was a disappointing from our point of view.

"The goal Fleetwood scored before half-time took a deflection and went in and when we conceded the second our heads dropped a little bit.

"We just never got into the game at all."

Burr was set to call his players in this morning to discuss the events of last night's game before turning his attentions to Saturday's Conference clash at Mansfield Town.
