KIDDERMINSTER Harriers will take on Staveley in the FA Youth Cup tonight (Wednesday) - with a little help from their friends at Bewdley Town.

Harriers entered the competition despite not having a youth team of their own - so they have called in a favour from their lower-graded neighbours.

Ian Mercer's Bewdley youth team will take to the Aggborough turf at 7.30pm under the guise of Kidderminster.

Bewdley chairman Geoff Edwards revealed that the arrangement came about after he received a call from Harriers secretary Roger Barlow a month ago.

"Roger Barlow approached me out of the blue about four weeks ago and asked if our youth team would be able to play for them in the FA Youth Cup," he said.

"We wanted to enter it ourselves but the FA were worried that our ground wouldn't be quite ready and they were right.

"Our committee were a bit concerned about allowing our kids to play for the Harriers, but the players themselves jumped at the chance of playing at Aggborough.

"To be fair to Harriers they've said that we've just got to turn up and everything will be laid on for us."

Edwards revealed that his club would also provide a Harriers team for the Midland Youth Cup clash against Grimsby next month and he said Harriers had asked about occasionally bolstering their reserve team with Bewdley youngsters.

But the Ribbesford Meadows committee have only agreed to the arrangement on the condition that Harriers do not try to poach any of their players.

"Our lads will play in Kidderminster Harriers shirts and will sign reserve team forms but there is a gentleman's agreement that they won't pinch any of our lads," he added.

"They half hinted at having some of our senior players for their reserves as well but we've steered clear of that because our first team are doing so well that we don't want to disrupt them."

Tomorrow night's FA Youth Cup first qualifying round tie kicks off at 7.30pm at Aggborough. Admission is £3 adults, £2 concessions with the gate receipts going to Harriers.

The scheduled reserve team game against AFC Telford has been cancelled.
