KIDDERMINSTER Harriers boss Steve Burr is keen to further strengthen his squad for the play-off push in the Blue Square Bet Premier with more new faces, after swooping for ex-Tamworth man Dan Bradley this week.

The 20-year-old signed on until the end of the campaign this week to end Harriers’s year-long pursuit of the attacking midfielder, who left the Lambs in December after falling out with former boss Marcus Law.

However, with the Aggborough outfit sixth in the table and only outside the play-offs on inferior goal difference to York City, Burr wants to make sure his squad is strong enough to push on and secure a top five spot.

“I am very surprised Tamworth have let Dan go but we’re delighted to have him with us because he has been on our radar for over a season now,” said Burr.

“To get him here on our terms is great for us — he is an attacking midfield player who can play just behind the front man as well.

“That was one of the big reasons for bringing him in; he’s a player who is young, very fit and is looking forward to playing football.”

While a number of targets are on the manager’s radar, one man unlikely to join is striker Matthew Barnes-Homer, who was released by Luton Town this week.

The 25-year-old, who left Harriers for the Hatters in January 2010 for an estimated fee of £70,000, was not in manager Gary Brabin’s plans and had been loaned to Football League side Rochdale.

Burr added: “I think Matthew Barnes-Homer and his agent will be looking to get a move to a club in the Football League.

“He did a good job when he was at Harriers but I know he was on big wages at Luton and if he’s looking for that then we wouldn’t be able to compete.

“We are looking to bring in a few people to strengthen to ensure we’ve got the squad to push on.”

Bradley could be included in the squad as Harriers look to stretch their 10-game unbeaten run in all competitions with two Conference clashes.

First, they entertain relegation battling Hayes and Yeading on Saturday (3pm kick-off), before a lengthy mid-week trip to play-off rivals Gateshead on Tuesday night (7.45pm kick-off).

“I don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves, we’re on a great run but you can’t predict what may happen,” the manager added.

“But we want to keep it going and we’re full of confidence going into the Hayes and Yeading game.”

Meanwhile, chairman Mark Serrell is set to resist another approach for sought after hitman Jamille Matt after an unnamed Football League club made a bid for him this week.

Matt, who has already been subject to strong interest from Northampton Town, is Harriers’ top-scorer with 11 goals.

“My heart tells we should keep Jamille [Matt] and the board will be guided by Steve [Burr], who rates him very highly,” said the chairman.

“You see Jamie Vardy at Fleetwood attracting a big offer from West Ham and Steve thinks Jamille can be even better and go right to the top.

“In my head I have a figure which if offered then it would have to be a board decision but it would have to be a very, very good offer.

“I want to do what’s best for the club and most importantly we are in a financial position where we don’t have to sell him.”
