STOURPORT SWIFTS manager Rod Brown is confident he’s got a squad capable of keeping the club in Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West, but now it’s a matter of finding the winning habit.

The Swifts boss has strengthened his squad in recent weeks with the arrival of Evesham trio Gary Walker, James Blake and Lewis Pountney.

Brown is set to add another new face, with the versatile Tim Jackson set to train with the squad on Tuesday.

He hopes their arrivals can spark a Swifts revival and take lift off the bottom of the table.

Swifts are eight points behind second-from-bottom Wimborne Town after Saturday’s 2-0 loss to fellow strugglers Clevedon, when they were shot down by goals from Chas Hemmings and George Brimson.

“I thought we played well in the first-half but we conceded a sloppy goal,” Brown said. “The second-half was stretched and we conceded a second in time added on.

“I think the squad we’ve got now is the best we’ve had, I’ve added quality players like Gary Walker, James Blake and Lewis Pountney. Now we have got to change mentality, we’ve forgotten how to win and we need to remember that.”

However, Swifts got back to winning ways and put a poor league campaign behind them on Tuesday night as they thrashed Malvern 7-2 in the Worcestershire Infirmary Cup.

Louis Bridges (3), Dan Taylor (2), Lee Mussell and Nathan Hands hit the back of the net.

“Malvern maybe a few levels below us it but it’s great to progress in a cup,” Brown added.

Walker and Pountney are set to miss Saturday’s league clash at Cinderford (3pm kick-off).
