TWO Wyre Forest clubs have seen their dreams of building for the future given a huge lift after receiving grants from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund.

Bewdley Cricket Club has been given £44,000 to help modernise the changing rooms, showers, toilet and bar area at their Lower Park home.

Meanwhile, Wyre Forest School of Gymnastics have secured £50,000 to add a two-storey extension to their Lisle Avenue base.

The fund is part of the £135million Places People Play legacy programme which is bringing the magic of a home Olympic and Paralympic Games into communities across the country.

The programme aims to update the venues of sports club who work at a grassroots level.

Bewdley president Charlie Combes was delighted the club was given the boost, which will also help play for the installation of new windows and a heating system.

He said “We are delighted to secure the grant, which has enabled us to upgrade the quality of our premises.

“It will be a real boost for the start of the season in April and provide for the 2012 Olympic Legacy.”

Every sports facility which receives funding will also carry the London 2012 Inspire mark, which celebrates the link to the Games.

The work at Wyre Forest Gymnastics School will add a dance studio, staff room, toilets, changing rooms and kitchen.

The club was founded by Ann Combes over 25 years ago, who upon retiring handed the running over to a committee. In October 2010 it moved from Baxter College into a dedicated home.

Head coach Louise Hodges said: “The grant will enable us to upgrade the quality of our premises and provide the parents with the opportunity to watch their children participating in gymnastic classes.”

Wyre Forest MP Mark Garnier added: “It is fantastic news for Wyre Forest that several of our community sports clubs will benefit from the fund. A large number of people will not be able to attend the Games but this will be a legacy for the UK and Wyre Forest.”
