TOM Chew was crowned Champion of Champions at Bewdley Pines.

Chew won on countback with a score of 40 points, pipping second-placed Steven Kettle and third-placed Graham Deakin.

Meanwhile, the men's March stableford was won by Nathan Slater (43 points), followed in second by Glenn Kitson (42) and Pete John (40).

The ladies Saturday March medal was clinched by Cathy Watkins, with Jo Crow runner-up and Chris Martin third.

Bewdley Pines’ seniors defeated Wharton Park 6 1/2-1/2 as pairs Rick Bennett and Ivan Perks, Norman Howard and Mike Gordon, Dave Drew and Tony Murphy, Nick Hancox and Tony Yates, Trevor Eccleshall and Neil Burns as well as Gerry Rhodes and John Phillips all tasted victory.

Gary Wellings and Dave Kettle halved against Wharton’s Peter Mauger and Bruce Pugh.

l Cleobury Mortimer have named Robert Watkins as the club’s new professional.

Watkins replaces Tim Hall, who has moved on after 10 years, following on from an exhausting search.

The club had more than 70 applicants for the position, including two from Canada and one from the USA, but Watkins emerged as the strongest candidate.

Watkins played county golf for Gloucestershire as a member of Forest Hills Golf Club in the Forest of Dean, before turning professional and completing his PGA foundation degree at Birmingham University while training at The Celtic Manor resort.

During his time at Celtic Manor, he worked at the 2010 Ryder Cup and the Welsh Open.

Mortimer saw a big turnout for the Easter Orange Ball tournament.

The quartet of Mike Wood, Paul Hannah, Pat Fleming and James Griffiths retained the tournament with a score of 137.
