UNIQUE Fitness Gym team from Kidderminster took the BPO British Powerlifting Championships by storm in Aldershot at the weekend, with Dave Clements leading the way with a world record.
Members of the team were in record-breaking form as Unique emerged as the strongest team at the championships.
Sixty-nine-year-old Dave Clements, who competes in the under-100kg 65 to 69 age section, set a new world record when he squatted 202 kilograms, benched 135kg and deadlifted 200kg in his age section.
Josie Thomas benched a new British record of 75 kilograms, while Louise Price won her category and squatted 180.5kg, to set a new national standard on her way to taking the best female title.
Don Coates made a strong debut in his first powerlifting competition, taking first place with a squat of 190kg, bench press of 135kg and deadlifting 220kg, while Craig Gallis, who squatted 160kg, benched 140kg and deadlifted 220kg, finished fifth.
There was third-place for Mark Hawkley (225kg squat,190kg bench and 220kg deadlift).
Rob Todd, 66, was the team’s powerlifter of the day with all-round British records of 200kg squat, 140kg bench and 210kg deadlift in the under-110kg 65 to 69 category.
Roy Brown, 64, set a new deadlift standard of 220kg, while Gerrard Hart, 21, set a junior British record of 195kg.
Andy Knight, Kev Maher, Rob Preston, Tony Brown, Harry Whale, Dave Foster, Pat Hart and Steve Knight also took part.
