CHESS: Title contenders Kidderminster Pawns were fortunate to defeat Kidderminster Rocks 2½-1½ in Worcester and District League Division Two.
Playing without John Varilone and John Chester, the Rooks took an early lead when Dave Close fell foul of the touch and move rule, losing a piece.
The turning point came when the Rooks’ Igor Shevchenko turned down a draw and went onto lose his game.
