Wright aiming for success on two fronts
12:37pm Wednesday 2nd May 2012 in Sport
KIDDERMINSTER Victoria skipper Jonathan Wright is hoping to kick-start success on two fronts this weekend.
KVCC take on newly-promoted Berkswell at Chester Road (noon start) on Saturday, aiming to make a winning beginning to the Birmingham and District League Premier Division, after Saturday’s clash at Barnt Green was rained off.
They then entertain Fordhouses in the first regional round of the Kingfisher Beer National Knockout Cup on Sunday (1pm start), in a rescheduled match.
Wright said: “Berkswell are quite fancied to do well by a few people and they’re captained by the old Warwickshire player Dominic Ostler so we’re in for a tough game.
“But we’d like to get off to a winning start in the league.
“Then we’ve got the cup and we’d love to go on a really good run in the competition as it generates an awful of interest in the club.
“It’s been a while since we had a good run in it, so we’d love to go a long way.”
Matt Pardoe is not available for the game as he will be playing for Worcestershire in their County Championships game at Middlesex, while Andy Kimberlin will miss the match because of a hockey tour.
Meanwhile, Chester Road will host Worcestershire’s CB40 match against Netherlands on Monday because of flooding at New Road.
The flood levels at the ground peaked last night at four metres on Tuesday and there remains a substantial amount of standing water on the outfield.
The venue for the County Championship match against Surrey CCC, which starts on Wednesday, will be decided at a later date.
Meanwhile, KVCC’s seconds lost by three wickets to Moseley in one of the few games to survive the wet weather.
James Brighton top scored with 61 as KVCC made 148-3 in 40 overs. Despite Andy Logan’s five-wicket haul, Moseley reached 149-7 in the 39th over.
All the local sides in the Worcestershire County League were left frustrated as torrential rain forced all local matches off.
