CLEOBURY Mortimer GC saw a packed field compete in the men’s Virgin medal at the weekend.
Mark Worthington recorded a 70 to give him first place in Division Two and seal the first qualifying spot, while Andrew Johnson carded a 73 to take second place in Division One and a place in the pro-am with club professional Rob Watkins.
However, the day belonged to Martin Bower who shot a three under 68 to win by a massive five shots.
He now sees his handicap reduced to 10.6 and edging ever closer to his 2012 goal of becoming a single figure golfer.
Virgin Medal final standings — Division One: 1 Martin Bower 68; 2 Andy Johnson 73.
Division Two: 1 Mark Worthington 70; 2 Gordon Moriaty 74.
n Gary Guest continued his run of fine form to lift the Spring Trophy at Burlish Park Golf Club.
Guest’s first place adds to his early season victory in the Andy Main Masters and sees him going into the Jubilee Day Cup on a hat-trick.
Shaun Nickless completed his comeback from injury with an excellent 71 to secure second place.
n Cathy Watkins won Bewdley Pine GC’s Ladies Tuesday April Stableford on countback with 38 points.
Judy Hancox came second with 38 points and Carol Hooper finished third with 35.
n Ombersley GC Ladies — EWGA Medal: Sue Hele 86 gross/69 nett.
Monthly Club Medal: 1 Sue Hele 86-69; 2 Melanie Leroy 99-71; 3 Diana Bloore 94-73.
