WYRE Forest golfer Dean Thatcher found a novel way to celebrate his 25th birthday - by achieving his first hole in one.

Thatcher was enjoying a social round of golf with a friend when he aced the 130-yard 10th hole at Wharton Park Golf Club, in Bewdley, last Friday.

"I knew it was good when I hit it and I was delighted when I saw that it had gone in," said Thatcher, who is the assistant professional at Wyre Forest Golf Club.

Thatcher, who is sponsored by Stargold Printers in Kidderminster, has been playing golf for 12 years.
