Freke is back in the old routine

NATHAN Freke made a winning return to the Ginetta G50 Cup at Knockhill this weekend.

The Kidderminster race ace was called into action to perform for his Team Century after one of his drivers quit last week.

But the 2009 champion showed how it was done with a win and a third in Scotland.

Impressively, this was the first time he had raced since taking part in the 24 Nurburgring event in May but despite his rustiness, he was still too hot to handle.

He said: “I was a bit rusty considering I hadn’t really raced much this year but I got better as the weekend went on.

“This was a bit of a lift for the team and gives everyone a bit of a platform to build on.”

In race one, Freke had been hampered by a lack of practice in the wet but managed to move into second place.

However, with two laps to go slipped back into fourth.

Race two on Sunday morning was a dry affair and after starting fourth, Freke was quickly into third and chasing down the front two. But with the front three posting similar times, he had to settle for third and a new lap record in the process.

But in the weekend’s final race, he was on the front row after the reverse grid selection.

After a big smash on the start, the race was restarted and Freke immediately took the lead which he held from lights to flag.

Freke added: “A win and a new lap record proves the car is competitive and with limited testing I can race with the best.

“I am hoping to find funds to continue in the seat, but failing that we are seeking backers for 2013 in either Touring Cars, Porsche, or GT3 racing.

“Either way it will always be down to funding because without that however good you are will not get you up the ladder.”
