Tom defends title
11:00am Saturday 29th September 2012 in Sport
KIDDERMINSTER kickboxers covered themselves in glory at the recent WAKO Junior World Championships which took place in Slovakia.
Three members from the Lighthouse Kickboxing School in Kidderminster took part in the tournament which attracted over 2,000 competitors from 49 different nations.
Reigning world champion Tom Evans, 15, successfully defended the title he won two years ago in Serbia when winning the 13 to 15 year 57 kilogram division, gaining revenge over the Italian fighter who defeated him in the European Championships last year for good measure.
Fletcher Thomas, also 15, finished up with a silver medal after losing out to an experienced Hungarian fighter in the 13 to 15 year 42kg division.
Having only taken up the sport two years ago, this was an outstanding effort by Fletcher who only lost out on a gold medal to a world champion.
Jamie Berrow, 10, claimed a bronze medal at his first world championship, again losing to a Hungarian fighter in the 10 to 12 year 28kg section.
The boys were accompanied by Lighthouse School owner Drew Neal .
