KIDDERMINSTER Harriers boss Steve Burr wants his team to find their spark again as they look to bounce back from two defeats in a row at Skrill Premier newcomers Welling United on Saturday.

The manager was disappointed with his side’s lack of creativity in last weekend’s 2-0 home defeat to Luton, who stretched their unbeaten record at Aggborough to seven matches.

But Burr has been pleased by the hard work of his players in training this week and is looking forward to a response.

Harriers face a tough test at the Wings, who are unbeaten at home and have already seen off promotion hopefuls Grimsby Town and drew with leaders Cambridge.

He said: “Players are naturally disappointed after losing a game like we did but they’ve worked hard in training and are champing at the bit for Saturday.

“I was disappointed with how few chances we made against Luton, which is really not like us.

“Unfortunately, collectively we did not play well enough and while Luton are well organised and have some experienced players we didn’t play like we normally do.”

The one bright spark from an overall below par display was 20-year-old striker Joe Lolley, who looked comfortable during his first ever start in the Conference Premier, despite making the step up from Midland Combination side Littleton this summer.

Burr added: “Joe looked really lively and if you consider the level he’s been playing at he’s done very well.

“All our chances fell to him and he did not look out of place.”

Burr is keeping his fingers crossed that a number of players overcome injuries ahead of this weekend’s trip to Kent (3pm ko).

Defensive duo Josh Gowling and Chey Dunkley both have knee injuries, while Marvin Johnson also has a similar problem.

Lolley has a knock, while midfielders Jack Byrne and Jamie Tolley also have Achilles injuries.

Callum Gittings is also definitely out after damaging his ankle against Luton.

“We’ll see how the players are and hopefully a few of these problems will be cleared up by Saturday,” commented the Harriers manager.
