CAPTAIN Kyle Storer admits that leading Harriers out at the Stadium of Light on Saturday will be one of the proudest moments in his football career.

The 26 year old midfielder is relishing the chance of going under the spotlight against what he describes as a “fantastic” Sunderland line-up.

Storer, who has clocked up more than 100 appearances for Harriers since arriving at Aggborough in July, 2011, said: “As captain I’ll be proud to lead the boys out if selected. Playing a Premiership side is probably the highlight of my career.

“These games don’t happen to non-league players that very often so when they do you have to take it all in and I’m sure we will do that. Sunderland are a fantastic side. They’re a Premiership team and I’m sure we will find out the jump up in class. It’ll be very challenging.”

But Storer is convinced Harriers won’t be overawed by the occasion, particularly after the way they performed in the previous round when they clinched a famous 3-2 replay victory at Peterborough.

“That was a great night for us and for the club. It was a bit of a mixed bag of a week really, full of emotions with Steve Burr going out and the new gaffer coming in.

“We did really well to keep everything intact. But we fought very well and we fully deserved the win.”

Since then Storer and his team-mates have been dreaming of testing their skills against star-studded Sunderland. “It’ll be a fantastic game for a club like ourselves in non-league. I haven’t played on a ground like that and most of the other lads haven’t either.

“Don’t get me wrong it’s going to be very challenging. We are going there and obviously it will be a very good day out. We want to show what we are made of. I’m sure we’ll go there and make a good account of ourselves. We’ve got some good players.”

Storer, whose career began as a Leicester City youth player before having spells with Bedworth United, Tamworth, Hinckley United, Atherstone and hometown club Nuneaton, is eager to make it a day to remember for Harriers’ fans.

He said: “We’ll have a lot of our supporters there and they are great week in week out. They really get behind the lads.”

Storer has produced some eye-catching performances since linking up with Harriers, who won the chase to sign him despite interest from Football League clubs.

He began this season by scoring in two of his side’s opening three matches, but has yet to open his account in the FA Cup – something he’d love to achieve on Saturday!
