GARY Whild has not ruled out Kidderminster Harriers’ hopes of signing experienced left-back Kevin Nicholson.

The 33-year-old is a free agent and played the entire game as the Aggborough outfit drew 1-1 with Shrewsbury on Tuesday night.

The manager confirmed that Nicholson was playing for Harriers as a favour to get fit and neither party had looked beyond that.

Whild is keen to bring in a left-back after missing out on Amari’i Bell, although Jamie Grimes has deputised ably in that position during pre-season.

One stumbling block to securing Nicholson may well be his wages.

“Kevin hasn’t got anything at the moment, which is surprising,” said Harriers’ boss.

“He’s been training but this was his first game and I thought he did well.

“Kevin showed why he has played over 500 league games, he is competent on the ball with a good left foot.

“We haven’t got as far as talking about his circumstances but Shrewsbury was a good chance for him to come and play. I haven’t asked him about Cheltenham yet but we’ll see where are.”

Nicholson was a popular figure at Torquay, featuring 272 times for The Gulls before his departure this summer. He also featured for Forest Green Rovers, Notts County and Scarborough.

On Twitter the defender said: “Thanks to @khfcofficial last night for my first game in quite some time. Loved every minute of it despite being a little rusty!!

“Think I’ll be spending the day trying to recover!!! Great to be back playing!! Hoping for another run out on Saturday now.”

Overall, Whild was pleased with Harriers' display against Shrewsbury. Reece Styche bagged his first goal for the club before James Collins levelled.

The Reds complete their pre-season programme against Mark Yates’ Cheltenham side on Saturday (3pm ko).

“In all fairness the lads are working towards Lincoln and hopefully they will ramp everything up against Cheltenham,” added the manager.
