FURIOUS Harriers Gary Whild manager has threatened to wield the axe after watching his side lose 1-0 to Altrincham and crash out of the FA Trophy yesterday.

Harriers were shot down by Damian Reeves's 20th minute strike as they suffered a third successive defeat at Aggborough.

They had conceded after an error by debutant Nathaniel Kelly, who had only signed from Birmingham on loan on Friday.

Craig Reid then fired a penalty over the bar in the 41st minute and Kidderminster peppered Altrincham's goal, only for keeper Stuart Coburn to deny Akwasi Asante, Keyon Reffell and Kevin Nicholson.

But Whild was critical of some of his senior players after a slow start.

He said: "Jamie Spencer, Jordan Tunnicliffe, Akwasi Asante and Keyon Reffell  have come into this club and are not on big wages.

"They have come here because they are hungry to do well for themselves and if I am being honest are being paid peanuts.

"They are running around like lunatics trying to bust a gut and I don't see that with some of the other players.

"If we are to push on we need to go down that road and liven things up a bit."

Harriers also suffered a setback when Marvin Johnson was taken off with a hip injury in the first half.

But his replacement Reffell made a fine debut and was prepared run at Altrincham's defence.  Asante also produced an encouraging display despite not taking Harriers' best chance in the first half.

"After a few words at half-time we raised the tempo, got a few crosses in and made their keeper work but I am sick of having to do that," commented the manager.

"It was the same at Dartford and we've done that a few times.

"We are sixth in the league and want push on and we will make change a few things around to make that happen.

"We have lost three games on the trot at home which is a big disappointment for me."

Whild also sympathised with Kelly after his error.

He said: "It was a good finish from an experienced goal-scorer at our level. He has had one chance and he has taken it.

"I thought the lad Kelly improved as the game went on and I am disappointed that one long ball has beaten my back four."

With all their hopes of knockout success over, Kidderminster are still in the hunt for promotion in the Vanarama Conference.

Eastleigh's win over Lincoln means Harriers have slipped to sixth in the table.

Their next game is at home to third-placed Macclesfield on Saturday (3pm ko).
