JACK Byrne believes he's hitting his best form as he prepares to take on former Harriers boss Steve Burr's Chester side tomorrow.

The 25-year-old bagged his fifth goal of the season when he scored Kidderminster's winner in Tuesday's victory over Aldershot.

The former Redditch United livewire's most prolific goal haul came during the 2011-12 season when he scored nine goals.

Since that impressive campaign, Byrne has been hit hard by a serious season ending Achilles injury and a bout of gastroenteritis.

The midfielder has put those problems behind to become a mainstay for Harriers with 29 appearances this season.

He'll be aiming to make sure Burr, who signed Byrne as a youngster from Redditch United in 2010, has a bad day.

Burr was Harriers boss until January 2014 when he left under mysterious circumstances.

Since then his former number two Gary Whild has taken the reins at Aggborough.

"I will always be grateful to Steve Burr for giving me a chance to become a professional footballer," said the midfielder.

"He always wanted me to express myself and gave me a lot of confidence.

"We're looking forward to playing Chester, there are no easy games in this league and we know we'll be in for a very tough game."

He added: "I have only missed a few matches this season and the normality of playing regularly has really helped.

"The previous few seasons were very stop-start for me but having a run has helped me get back to my best form."

Harriers head into the game in confident mood after four away wins in a row.

Kidderminster fell prey to a typical swash-buckling display by The Blues at Aggborough.

Whild's side had streaked into a 2-0 lead but Chey Dunkley's second half dismissal allowed Chester to earn a share of the spoils.

Chester have won just one game in the last ten and have not picked up three points at the Deva Stadium since December 2.

But the Reds will be aiming to maintain their push in the Vanarama Conference play-off places.

Harriers are fifth in the table in a season packed with unpredictable results.

Byrne said: "It's been a strange season to be honest with the players going in and out.

"But the manager has brought in a lot of guys of who were playing lower down but they have an opportunity to do well.

"The manager has put a lot of faith in them and they are responding to that.

"Even though we have been in the top five and six for a lot of the season, not many people are talking about us for the play-offs.

"I think that's because of circumstances off the pitch rather than on it, so I think we go under the radar.

"There is no one who is really pulling away, so if we can put some results together then we can make the play-offs."

Chester have signed Bradford City forward Oliver McBurnie on a month's loan, while Kingsley James and Ibou Touray are both suspended.

Josh Gowling is not expected to be back for Harriers as he recovers from a knee injury.
