LEE Hughes scored on his return to Aggborough but Harriers' hopes of kick-starting their play-off push were frustrated by promotion rivals Woking.

Hughes, 38,  bagged his first goal at Kidderminster since March 29, 1997.

The striker, who scored 70 goals in his first spell at Harriers, looked very sharp as the hosts dominated the first half.  But the Cards responded well after the break and pushed back before Yemi Odubade levelled the scores.

After Harriers' previous two league games had been postponed, this was manager Gary Whild's first chance to field his new-look strike force of Hughes, Wright and Dominic Knowles.

The trio looked sharp particularly in the first half, when they tore through the Cards' defence.

Woking had the game's first chance in the seventh minute when Charles Banya rolled an effort across the face of goal.

But the new-look hosts came close to opening the scoring in the 15th but Aaron Wildig saw an accurate right-footed shot saved by keeper Jake Cole.

The pacey Banya was posing a few problems for the home defence and he saw an effort hit the post moments later.

But with the impressive Wildig pulling the strings, Harriers took control and the on-loan Shrewsbury man rolled a 20-yard shot agonisingly wide of the left-hand post.

Wright also had a headed effort ruled out from a Wildig corner for pushing an opponent.

Woking were being penned back but it needed a well-timed sliding challenge by returning skipper Josh Gowling on Yemi Odubade as he sped into the box.

But the goal came in the 38th minute. There was a hint of offside from Wright but Hughes raced onto Knowles' pass and slammed a shot from the edge of th area into the back of the net.

Woking tried to hit back and keeper Danny Lewis  denied John Goddard.

The away team  made a good start to the second half and Goddard came close to making it 1-1 with a fine volley that flew offside.

Goddard was involved in all of Woking's best moments and he teed up Scott Rendell but the forward stabbed a first time effort at Lewis in the 57th minute.

Woking continued to have the better of the second period and it needed a fine reaction save by Lewis in the 66th minute, who tipped away Joey Jones' header.

But the away side got the leveller they deserved two minutes later. The hosts failed to clear properly and Odubade stabbed home an close range effort which took a deflection.

Whild rang the changes, bringing on Keyon Reffell and Akwasi Asante respectively for Wildig and the tiring Hughes.

Wright had a chance to fire the hosts ahead in the 81st minute when substitute Ahmed Obeng swept the ball to the forward but Cole dived to deny him.

Asante then headed a far post chance wide from a deep Kevin Nicholson cross.

But neither side could find the winner as Harriers remained five points behind the Vanarama Conference top five.
