HARRIERS have signed secured their first new signing of the summer after bringing in midfielder Calvin Dinsley.

The 24-year-old has had an excellent season at Redditch United, making the step up from Midlands Premier side Stourport Swifts comfortabtly.

Manager Gary Whild is scouring the lower levels of non-league looking for players with potential because of the club’s smaller budget.

It is also believed that the Harriers boss is also interested in signing defender Jordan Jones.

While also spending time with Cambridge United, the majority of Dinsley’s career has been based here in the Midlands, with spells at the likes of Evesham United and, most recently, Redditch United.

"Calvin is a player we've known about for quite some time and he's someone who has spent time working at the club back when he was studying and assisting our medical staff,” said Whild.

"So we already knew the inside track with him and the type of lad he is - he has a fantastic attitude as a player and he has progressed very quickly.

"He's technically gifted and a very good passer of the ball, and without trying to put him in a bracket, he does remind me a bit of Jack Byrne when Jack first came here.

"People should have no reservations about that because this club has proved what it can do it in terms of progressing young players.”

The manager also confirmed that the club have taken up options in the contracts of Ahmed Obeng, Jamie Spencer and Tyrone Williams.

Whild also confirmed he’d have positive talks with forwards Danny Wright and Gurjit Singh.

He added: "We'd love to do something Danny if we can and, for his part, he's very keen to be here so we're positive on that front.

"We're hopeful that Gurj Singh is close to being a done deal too; he's been in with us at the back and of last season and we're looking forward to seeing how he continues to adjust to the full-time game."

Harriers will also have young striker Reece Hales and Academy prospects George Forsyth, Jordan Harrison, Dan Sweeney and Nathan Millichamp in for pre-season training in July with a view to earning new deals.
